Joe, HELP!? I recently came across some writings of my neighbors now-deceased husband. Notebooks full of stories, poetry, etc. I would appreciate someone guiding me on the procedure for submitting these for possible publication. For example, on the title page-would I say ----by (his name), Posthamously submitted by (.....)? In query letters, do I explain this? Can you help and guide me? Thank you for your time and consideration on this.

Hi Anne,

While I'm not Joe, I think I can offer you some advice. Agents will expect to be queried by either the person who wrote the material, or the person who now has the rights to the material. I'm not sure who that person is in this instance, but it's important to get their written permission before sending it out to agents.

Thank you for your reply. His writings remind me of Mark Twain. You get the feeling that an older family member is telling him the story of something that happened long ago and he is writing it down. This one is set around 1900 or before. The other is during or after the Civil War. We found several boxes of notebooks. He kept a daily journal of the struggles with his children and life. There is one rather lengthy novel. Still sifting through to put this in order. Guess now, I need to get typing! Again Thanks.
